Hamrun, Floriana in search of important points

Floriana and Hamrun Spartans will be all out for the three points on Sunday as the two teams face each other in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Floriana are currently joint-sixth together with Tarxien on 15 points. Hamrun follow them on 13 points.

The Greens are coming from a series of three consecutive defeats in which they suffered no less than 12 goals. In their last outing, they lost 1-2 to Tarxien. Besides Clifton Ciantar and Christian Caruana, who are both suspended, one change from the last game will be the absence of goalkeeper Serbian goalkeeper Goran Jovanovic who was released after sustaining an injury in his debut. However a new foreigner could be in the Greens’ squad on Sunday.

Meanwhile after collecting seven points from the previous three matches, the Spartans lost 0-2 to Birkirkara last week and they are therefore eager to return to winning ways.

In the first round, Floriana registered a narrow 1-0 win.

In the second match, Sliema Wanderers take on Tarxien Rainbows. The morale of the two teams is high after both returned to winning ways last week. The Blues beat Valletta 3-1 while the Rainbows defeated Floriana 2-1.

One point separates the two teams as Sliema are currently fifth on 16 points, followed by Tarxien on 15.

Argentine striker Julio Alcorse should make his debut for the Blues while defender Justin Grioli should make his first appearance for Noel Coleiro’s side.

In the first round, Tarxien registered a 3-1 win.
