Comfortable win for Qormi over ten-man Dingli

Qormi regained the top spot in the BOV Premier League table after defeating wooden-spoonists Dingli Swallows 4-0. Qormi move one point ahead of Valletta and two ahead of Birkirkara but the latter two have a game in hand.

Missing for Qormi were Camilo Da Silva Sanvezzo and Roderick Sammut while Alfred Effiong was back in the starting line-up after missing the last game against Hamrun. Dingli lacked Clint Caruana but Shawn Tellus, Roderick Briffa and Kevin Borg were back after serving a one-match ban.

Qormi had the first attempt at goal when off a throw-in by Matthew Bartolo, Stephen Wellman’s fine shot from the edge of the area was turned into a corner by Jeffrey Farrugia.

The Yellows had the opportunity to take the lead on 14 minutes when they were awarded a penalty after Massimo Grima sent Alfred Effiong through only to be floored by Shawn Tellus inside the area. However from the penalty spot, Joseph Farrugia’s effort was neutralised by Farrugia aided by the foot of the post.

Qormi finally managed to take the lead on 28 minutes when Ryan Deguara concluded a fine solo run on the right flank with a low shot which beat goalkeeper Jeffrey Farrugia.

A fierce shot by Massimo Grima on the half-hour ended just over the bar but four minutes later, Matthew Bartolo doubled the score for Qormi with a fine acrobatic shot after a cross from the right by Ryan Deguara.

On 67 minutes, Alfred Effiong had a close-range effort blocked by a defender following a cross from the right by Ryan Deguara.

Qormi scored the third goal on 71 minutes when off a cross from the right by Deguara, Stefan Giglio tapped the ball home from close-range.

Three minutes later, Effiong went close with a low shot from inside the area following a cross by Massimo Grima from the right but goalkeeper Jeffrey Farrugia neutralised his effort.

Alfred Effiong sealed the issue with a fourth goal two minutes in added time after receiving a through pass, rounding the goalkeeper and placing the ball at the back of the net.

Ryan Deguara was voted BOV Player of the Match.
