A place in the semi-finals will be at stake on Tuesday as champions Hibernians take on BOV Premier League leaders Valletta in the first quarter-final of the National League 100 Anniversary Cup at the National Stadium, kick-off at 19:30.
The Paolites reached this stage after defeating Qormi on penalties, following a 1-1 draw, in the third round and Marsaxlokk 3-0 in the fourth round. Valletta, on the other hand, registered two easy wins – 7-0 over Gozo and 3-0 over Vittoriosa Stars.
The two teams already met three times this season. Hibs registered a 2-0 win in the Euro Cup and went on to beat the Citizens 1-0 in the BOV Premier League first round. However in the second round, Valletta defeated Hibernians 4-2. The two teams also met in the triangular tournament with Parma. On that occasion, Hibs won 3-1.
Meanwhile in the other quarter-finals on Wednesday, Tarxien Rainbows take on Lija Athletic, Mosta face Sliema Wanderers and Floriana meet Hamrun Spartans.
In these matches, if at the end of the ninety minutes, the result is still draw, penalty kicks shall be taken in accordance with The Laws of the Game.
