The Carnival Tournament – a four-day football festival organised by the Sliema Wanderers Youth Nursery – got underway on Saturday afternoon and continued all day on Sunday with fine football being shown by the many young developing players taking part in keenly-contested matches

Although most matches ended in a close result, fair play prevailed during all matches and only a couple of yellow card were shown for minor offences. On Sunday, three age-group categories have been decided, namely the Under-11, Under-12 and Under-13.

Both the Under-11 and Under-12 categories were played on a league-basis with Mosta placing first in the Under-11 category and Melita finishing on top of the Under-12 category.

In the Under-13 category, Melita were the eventual winners in the final against Floriana after both teams had beaten the challenge offered by San Gwann and Sliema respectively in the semi-finals.

The tournament continues with the Under-14 category on Monday and Tuesday at the Melita Grounds.
