Benny Pace passes away

Former journalist and Valletta FC secretary Benny Pace passed away early this morning at the age of 74.

Besides holding the post of general secretary of Valletta FC in the eighties and nineties, Benny Pace held several posts in other associations, including the Malta Darts Association, Malta Basketball Association, Malta Billiards and Snooker Association and the Malta Boxing Association besides leading the National Sports Board. Pace was a currently a member of the Malta Football Association PR & Publications Committee.

Pace was an active member of the G?aqda tal-?urnalisti Sport (formerly known as G?aqda Kittieba Sports) and was the founder of the G?a?liet Sportivi Nazzjonali in 1960. At the time, he was the editor of the newspaper Sporting Star. He founded Soccer Magazine in 1957 and worked for In-Nazzjon Tag?na and il-Mument (1970-1982) and il-Poplu (1955-1973). Lately he was a contributor in a number of newspapers including l-Orizzont.

In a statement, the G?aqda ?urnalisti Sport Malta hailed Benny Pace as a person who was instrumental in the development of journalism on the Maltese islands and one of the main sports administrators.

Mass ‘praesante cadavere’ will be said on Friday, 26th February, 2010, at Carmelite Church in Valletta at 10.00.
