B'Kara, Valletta target fourth successive win

Joint-leaders Birkirkara and Valletta will be aiming for a fourth successive win on Saturday as they take on Qormi and Hibernians respectively in the two BOV Premier League matches in programme at the National Stadium.

Birkirkara and Valletta lead the way with 23 points, five points ahead of third-placed Qormi and six ahead of Hibernians.

In the first match, Birkirkara will be aiming at beating Qormi for the third time this season in order to make sure of maintaining the top spot. In fact, after winning 5-2 in the first round, three weeks ago, they won 2-0 in the last game from the first phase.

The Stripes won seven of the last nine matches and are coming from a narrow 2-1 win over Sliema Wanderers in their last league outing. Qormi, on the other hand, lost to Birkirkara and Hibs in the last two games and are therefore keen to return to winning ways.

Birkirkirkara will be unable to field their best formation due to the absence of Branko Nisevic and Paul Fenech. For Qormi, Ryan Deguara is ruled out as he serves a one-match ban but Stephen Wellman will be back after missing the game against Qormi.

Meanwhile in the second game, Valletta take on Hibernians.

The Citizens extended their positive league run with a 6-2 win over Tarxien Rainbows on Sunday to register the sixth win in seven matches and will now aim for another three points in order to keep the pace with Birkirkara. Hibernians, on the other hand, returned to victory last Saturday as they defeated Qormi 1-0. A win which puts Mark Miller’s side just one point behind the latter side.

No players are ruled out through suspension but Njongo Priso and Edward Herrera will be back from suspension.

Hibernians defeated Valletta twice – 2-0 in the Euro Cup and 1-0 in the BOV Premier League first round. Valletta registered a 4-2 win in the second round and eliminated the Paolites from the National League 100 Anniversary Cup, beating them 2-0.

Melita Sports shall broadcast LIVE on Melita Sports 707 the match between Valletta and Hibernians on Saturday 6th March. Live Transmission starts at 15:30hrs with the programme Matchday.
