Malta international striker Michael Mifsud opted to join Valletta until the end of the season. The news was revealed by Valletta FC vice-president Paul Spiteri during the programme l-Argument on Monday.

Mifsud was allowed to join any club out of the transfer window as he was out-of-contract after his previous contract with Coventry City expired at the end of last season. During these eight months, he was linked with various clubs locally and abroad, especially in England.

Mifsud started his career with Sliema Wanderers, moving to Germany in 2001 where he played for Kaiserslautern. Mid-way through season 2003/04, he returned to Malta to play for the Wanderers once again where he spent six months before moving to Norway to join Lillestrom.

In January 2007, Michael Mifsud joined Coventry where he scored 23 goals in all in 74 matches between League Championship, FA Cup and Carling Cup matches. He rose to fame with a brace against Manchester United in the Carling Cup thanks to which Coventry eliminated them from the competition. In January 2009, Mifsud joined Barnsley on loan till the end of the season.

Mifsud, who has been playing regularly for the national team even in the past months when he was still without a club, is the top scorer of all time for Malta with 24 goals.

The 28-year old striker should be an asset for Valletta in their bid to claim the championship. They are currently sharing the top spot with 26 points.
