Fifteen nurseries take part in Tony Bajada Memorial

A total of 372 players from 15 local nurseries took part in the ninth edition of the Tony Bajada Memorial, organised during the Easter holidays by the Hamrun Spartans Youth Nursery at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

The categories for boys were for those born in 2003, 2001, 1999 and 1996. The event is also the only annual festival organised by a local youth nursery, in which a girls’ tournament (age category 1995) is organised. It was a pleasure to note that women national team coach Pierre Brincat was also present during this tournament.

Luxol St Andrew’s won the boys’ category (1996) whilst Pembroke won the girls’ category (1995). Only Fair Play awards and tokens were presented to the other age groups in accordance with Youth FA guidelines.

The sponsors of the tournament were Farsons, Globalair Travel, Von Brockdorff Imports Ltd, Hamrun Local Council and the Bajada family.

This was the third football festival organised by the Hamrun Nursery this season after the Pre-Season Tournament (for Under 15 and Under 17 teams) and the Firetech Football Festival. The final tournament to be organised by the Hamrun Nursery will be the Sports Experience Challenge Cup for the 1997 Category to be held on 1 May 2010.
