Eurosport Replay Gala Night launched

With the local football season coming to an end, Media.Link Communications will host the third Replay Gala Night event on June 5.

This season being the 10th edition of NET TV’s Replay, Christian and George Micallef, the producers of this popular football show, gave details about the event, which will figure again on the local sporting calendar following a one-year absence.

Addressing a press conference in Birkirkara in the presence of the Parliamentary Secretary for Sport, the Hon Clyde Puli, Christian Micallef said: “Once again these awards will give us the opportunity to honour those individuals who have excelled throughout the local football season. The Eurosport Replay Gala Night will celebrate personal achievement and unceasing commitment to the game.”

George Micallef explained in detail the changes to the judging process for this year’s event. At present, during a preliminary voting phase, a panel of 12 leading football correspondents are selecting their top five players or coaches in eight traditional categories. 50% of the votes accumulated by the top four players in each category will be carried forward to the final adjudicating phase, where a panel of six leading football pundits will choose the eight winners.

The prestigious Top Star and Young Star Player Awards will be retained from the previous, 2008 edition. These tributes, similar to the PFA Player and Young Player of the Year Awards in England, will again feature very prominently. All the players on the field in the Maltese Premier League this season have been asked to name their top five players in both categories mentioned above. A new accolade is the Top Star Coach Award. The best coach will be voted for and chosen by the ten Premier League coaches themselves.

Meanwhile all the 10 First Division coaches have been asked to cast their votes for The Best First Division Player this season. Their preferences will carry 50% of the votes while the views of the four journalists covering this league will make up the remaining votes. Also, the captains of the teams in the First Division Women’s League will vote for their top player.

In a special award involving the sporting public, fans are being urged to have their final say on who they think was the BOV Premier League top player this season. Voting through text messages on 506 170 91 will close on Saturday June 5, at noon. Furthermore local clubs’ websites will be examined by a team of web-design experts and a winner for Best Club Website announced.
