Tournament for Form 1 students in aid of Puttinu Cares

A football Tournament for Form 1 students from different state schools, in aid of Puttinu Cares Children’s Cancer Support Group, was organised by the St. Clare College Sliema Boys’ Junior Lyceum earlier this month.

Puttinu Cares Sliema Boys’ Junior Lyceum Football Tournament was held on the 5th May at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Hamrun. This day tournament started at 9 am and ended at around 13.45pm. Five different schools; St. Clare College Sliema Boys’ Junior Lyceum, St. Ignatius College Boys’ Secondary School, St. Benedict College Boys’ Secondary School, St. George Preca College Marsa Boys’ Secondary School and Maria Regina College St. Venera Boys’ Junior Lyceum, participated in this tournament and handed to Puttinu Cares activity coordinator Rennie Zerafa a handsome sum of money which will help this organisation in its fruitful work.

Participating schools were requested to present one team of a maximum fourteen Form 1 students. Nine-a-side 30-minute games were played in a friendly and competitive environment. Accompanying teachers helped out in refereeing all games.

In the final game of the tournament, Sliema Boys’ Orange team succeeded in beating Maria Regina College with a 3-1 score line.

Sliema Boys’ Junior Lyceum administration would like to thank all schools, players and accompanying teachers participating in this tournament. Special thanks should also be addressed to Hamrun Spartans Football Club for providing their premises without charge. Apart from being a charitable cause, this activity was another opportunity for students to enjoy themselves through sports!
