FIFA Women's World Cup: Spain prove too strong for Malta

Spain once again proved to be too strong for Malta as they scored six in the final thirty minutes to win 9-0 in a FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifier at the Estadio Municipal de La Albuera, Segovia on Thursday.

The Maltese managed to limit the damage during the first half, suffering just one goal. However two goals early in the second half were the prelude for another six goals in the last half hour.

Adriana scored the only goal in the first half on the 17th minute. Two minutes in the second half, Adriana doubled the score and Elisabet Ibarra made it 3-0 two minutes later.

Adriana scored another two goals on 61 and 72 minutes to increase the lead further. Substitute María Casado made it 6-0 on the 77th and three minutes later, Elisabet Ibarra scored the seventh goal. Three minutes from time, Elisabet Ibarra added another and just before the final whistle, Verónica Boquete made it 9-0.
