International appointments for local referees

A number of Maltese referees and assistant referees were handed appointments for UEFA competitions in the coming weeks.

On Thursday, FIFA Referee Marco Borg will be controlling the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round second leg in Skopje between FK Teteks (FYR Macedonia) and IF Elfsborg (Sweden). He will be assisted by Ingmar Spiteri and Konrad Borg and fourth official Andre Arciola.

FIFA Women’s Referee Esther Azzopardi will be controlling matches from Group 5 of qualifying round of the the UEFA Women’s Champions League which will be held in Slovenia between August 5 and 10. She will control the matches ASD Bardolino (Italy) vs Swansea City (Wales) and ASD Bardolino (Italy) vs FC Baia Zugdidi (Georgia). She will be the fourth official in the match between ZNK Krka (Slovenia) and ASD Bardolino.

On August 25, Esther Azzopardi will be controlling the FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifier between Belarus and Slovakia which will be played in Molodechno.

Meanwhile FIFA Assistant Referee Mariano Debono was one of eight assistant referees in the 9th UEFA European Under-19 Championship final tournament which was held in France. Debono was one of the assistant referees in three matches, namely Austria vs England on Sunday 18, Netherlands vs England on Wednesday 21 and Portugal vs Croatia on Saturday 24.
