Darmanin Demajo, Portelli to attend next Saturday's Annual General Meeting

Norman Darmanin Demajo and Antoine Portelli, who will be running for the posts of president and treasurer of the Malta Football Association respectively, were granted accreditation to attend the MFA Annual General Meeting which will be held on Saturday.

In a statement, MFA General Secretary Joe Gauci said that although they have no automatic right to attend the meeting according to the MFA statute, Darmanin Demajo and Portelli had reached a hasty conclusion that they were denied access to the AGM after receiving no response to their request from the MFA which is not bound by deadlines to decide such matters.

Gauci said that president Joe Mifsud opted to leave the decision at the hands of all association officials who agreed to follow the same procedure adopted three years ago when Dr Peter Fenech was allowed to be present for the meeting despite not being eligible to attend.

The MFA informed Darmanin Demajo and Portelli that the Bureau unanimously agreed to grant them permission to attend.

The statement condemned what was described as the irresponsible manner in which false allegations were published in the media (not maltafootball.com), which allegations are tantamount to the intentional misquoting of the Association’s General Secretary, without even bothering to try to verify such statements, evidently circulated by people who have an interest in throwing a bad light on the Malta Football Association.
