Eight teams to take part in Gammari Muscat Mosta Tournament

Hosts Mosta will play Mgarr United on the opening day of the 2010 ‘Gammari’ Muscat’ Mosta Tournament. The draws were made this morning at The George Hotel in Paceville where representatives of all the participating teams were present. The draws for the Mosta FC Under-19 Challenge were also held during the same meeting which was chaired by Mosta Tournaments Chairman, Joseph Muscat.
Mr. Muscat thanked all present for their interest and gave a special welcome to the Naxxar Lions representative. Mr. Muscat said that the organizing were pleased that Naxxar were participating for the first time in the senior tournament. Being neighbours and big rivals in football, it was time to start and build bridges.
This will be the 29th edition of the tournament which started in 1978 and is the oldest tournament of its kind in Malta. For the first time, the tournament will be played on a new artificial turf pitch and Melita Cable will be filming the matches.
Apart from Mosta and Naxxar Lions, the other participating teams will be Tarxien Rainbows, Lija Athletic, Pieta Hotspurs, Gzira United, Zurrieq and Mgarr United. The ‘Gammari’ Muscat Mosta Tournament will start on the 23rd August and ends with the Final on the 1st September.
The eight participating teams will be split into two sections of four teams of which the first two classified will qualify for the semi-finals. Apart from the final there will also be the match for 3rd and 4th place.
The Malta Under-17 team will be participating in the Mosta FC Under-19 Challenge along with hosts Mosta, Naxxar Lions, Mgarr United and St. Andrew’s FC. The youth tournament starts on the 2nd September and ends on the 11th.
Before the actual draws, Mr. Muscat thanked the management of The George Hotel for providing the venue which was first class.
