Malta International Airport was represented by the Mosta (Under-10) and Valletta (Under-9) football teams at an International children’s Football Tournament in Austria. The two teams were selected through a Football Festival which was held in Malta in April with 16 participating Teams following an invitation from MIA to all local Youth Nurseries.
The ASK-BSC Bruck Tournament which took place between the 21st and 22nd of August 2010 was hosted by the ASK-Bruck Club at the Bruck Stadium. Teams from Slovakia, Hungary, Malta and various parts of Austria participated in the tournament.
The location proved to be ideal for the event which was thoroughly enjoyed by all participants, officials and the parents who travelled to Vienna for the event.
The Tournament proved to be a positive experience for the Maltese teams, both for the results achieved, with Mosta and Valletta both placing second in the Saturday round of games and also for the opportunity that the Maltese teams had to play against foreign opponents of a slightly older age group. In fact on Sunday, Mosta played in the Under-11 age group whereas Valletta played in the Under-10 group. On Sunday six games were played in a group which included both Mosta and Valletta, with both teams playing in the Under-10 category. The ‘derby’ match between the two teams ended with Mosta winning 2-0.
This was an experience which MIA offered the children in line with its policy of promoting sportsmanship among the up-and-coming generation and providing opportunities for international exposure and exchanges in the practice of this favorite sport at such a young age.
