Tarxien Rainbows yet again proved that they are a class apart from their opponents in Section B of the Gammari’ Muscat Mosta Tournament with a massive 9-1 win over Naxxar Lions.

Their three Brazilian players were a joy to watch as they caused havoc in the Lions defence. Cristiano Dos Santos Rodrigues and Sergio Pacheco De Oliveira bagged hat-tricks and Ricardo Costa scored two. Lee Galea scored the Rainbows final and ninth goal while Adrian Fenech netted Naxxar’s consolation goal.

Tarxien are the first team to qualify for the semi-finals as they lead the table with a maximum six points from two games. Pieta Hotspurs and Gzira United drew 1-1 in the second match of the day. Thane Micallef put Gzira ahead but Ryan Moreby equalised for Pieta. Gzira keeper James Mercieca saved a penalty in the second half.

Tarxien lead the table with six points, followed by Pieta on four, Gzira one and Naxxar nil. Section ‘A’ will come to an end on Friday with Lija Athletic meeting Mgarr at 18:30 hrs followed by Mosta v Zurrieq at 20.30 hrs.
