Mosta FC Under-19 Challenge: Hosts beaten by St. Andrews

The Mosta FC Under-19 Challenge kicked off last Thursday with two matches that featured four olf the five participating teams.

In the first match Naxxar Lions and Mgarr United shared the points in a 1-1 draw. After a goaless first half it was Mgarr who took the lead in the 62nd through Joseph Paul Zammit. But Naxxar kept never gave up and deservedly eaqualised through Andrea Farrugia in the 75th minute.

In the second match, hosts Mosta FC lost 2-1 to St, Andrew’s FC in a very good match. Mosta were fielding a practically new side from last season, but included Gianluca Vella as one of their overage players and in the second half Lyden Micallef was another that was introduced.

After 37 minutes St, Andrew’s took the lead through Matteo Desira Buttigieg that was the only goal scored in the first half. Although Mosta were trying to get back on level terms, St. Andrew’s struck again in the 52nd minutes when Jack Pallen made it 2-0.

The Blues made a late reaction and manged to pull one back through substitute James Muscat in the 90th minute. But it was too little, too late as St. Andrew’s won 2-1.

18.30 hrs MALTA UNDER-17 v MOSTA FC
20.30 hrs NAXXAR LIONS v ST. ANDREW’s FC
