Second-half goals sink Under-21 side in France

Goals by substitute Lynel Kitambala and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa gave France a 2-0 win over Malta in the final game from Group 8 of the UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifying round at the Stade de La Licorne in Amiens.

The Maltese managed to keep their opponents at bay for almost an hour before Lynel Kitambala put the French side ahead. Eight minutes later, Yanga-Mbiwa doubled the score.

In a tense finale, Lynel Kitambala was sent off for France on the 80th. Mark Scerri was sent off on 83 minutes and two minutes later, Clifford Gatt Baldacchino was also given marching orders by referee Artur Soares Dias.

Malta ended its commitments without any points in the group after suffering eight defeats in eight matches.
