Spartans aim at maintaining perfect record

Hamrun Spartans will be seeking a third win in as many matches as they take on Sliema Wanderers in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme on Sunday.

The Spartans defeated Qormi and Tarxien Rainbows with an identical 3-1 score and hope to collect another three points on Sunday in order to regain the top spot.

Sliema are still in search of their first win after disappointing in their first two outings, suffering a 1-4 defeat to Birkirkara and being held in a goalless draw by Marsaxlokk.

Clayton Failla is the latest addition to the Blues’ casualty list. He joins Alex Muscat and Steve Bezzina. However on a positive note, Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza should be back after skipping the first two matches. John Mintoff returns after serving a one-match ban.

For Hamrun, Lee James Agius is ruled out due to an injury but Serbian defender Jovan Vukanic should make his debut.

Meanwhile in the first match, Floriana will be aiming for a second successive win as they take on Marsaxlokk.

The Greens were in excellent form last week as they defeated Birkirkara 2-0, therefore bouncing back from the defeat to Hibernians in their first outing. On the other hand, Marsaxlokk are still unbeaten after collecting two points in two goalless draws with Tarxien Rainbows and Sliema Wanderers.

Floriana will be lacking Bulgarian midfielder Kiril Dzhorov who was handed a one-match ban by the MFA Disciplinary Commissioner. Marsaxlokk coach Patrick Curmi should have the full squad at his disposal.
