Triestina Soccer School Malta launched

The Triestina Soccer School was launched in Malta during a press conference which was held at the De La Salle College, Cottonera on Thursday. Addressing the press conference was the head of the US Triestina youth sector Franco Schiraldi and De La Salle College director Bro Martin Borg.

Franco Schiraldi said the idea of setting up the soccer school is the result of discussions with Italian scout Alfio San Filippo, Bro Martin Borg, Robert Busuttil who is the parent of a student attending the college and College Assistant Head Kenneth Vella. Schiraldi said that although Triestina are a small club when compared to other Italian clubs, they are one of the most consistent sides in the Serie B and have a well-organised youth set-up. The club has a good relationship with top Serie A clubs and in past, some of their young players were transferred to these clubs.

Training at the Triestina Soccer School Malta will be held at De La Salle College, under the supervision of Marsaxlokk player Peter Pullicino who holds a UEFA “A” Coaching Licence. Pullicino will be following guidelines established by the US Triestina technical staff. The school will be open for children aged six to thirteen.

Franco Schiraldi said that at that age the most important thing is that children enjoy playing football. He revealed that they will be aiming to give an opportunity to Maltese children to travel to Trieste to play with Italian children who will be on trial with the club.

Training sessions will be held twice a week – on Tuesdays and Thursdays and children attending the school will receive official kits of Triestina.

Bro Martin Borg fsc said that the College is glad that the Triestina Soccer School will be based at its premises. He said De La Salle College believe in holistic education and in recent years invested in new sports facilities including a new artificial turf pitch which is also being used as a training ground for Premier League side Vittoriosa Stars.

Following an agreement with the Italian club, students from De La Salle and Stella Maris will be able to benefit from a discounted fee when registering with the Triestina Soccer School.

The College director said the administration is doing its best to maximize the use of its sports facilities and revealed he had a meeting with MFA President Norman Darmanin Demajo over the matter.
