Stripes aim at returning to winning ways

Champions Birkirkara will be hoping to return to winning ways on Thursday as they take on Vittoriosa Stars at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

The Stripes won two, lost two and were held in two draws and have now gone three matches without a win after the 2-2 draw with Valletta, a 2-5 defeat to Marsaxlokk and last Friday’s 1-1 draw with Hamrun Spartans. Results which leave them six points behind leaders Valletta.

Coach Paul Zammit’s biggest concern is the number of injuries which hit players from his squad. Trevor Cilia is the latest addition to Birkirkara’s casuality list which also includes Shaun Bajada, Rowen Muscat and Alan Tabone.

Despite lying at the bottom of the table, Vittoriosa’s morale is sky-high after they registered their first win beating Hibernians on Sunday. An emphatic win which enabled them to obtain a second positive result following a draw with Floriana in their previous outing. Coach Winston Muscat hopes his players will repeat their performance in their bid to extend this positive run.
