Citizens, Greens seek derby honours

Eternal rivals Valletta and Floriana will be all out to claim the three points on Saturday as the two teams cross swords in one of the two matches in programme at the National Stadium.

Despite having a game in hand, the Citizens lead the way in the BOV Premier League table with 17 points, four ahead of four teams – Hamrun Spartans, Marsaxlokk, Tarxien Rainbows and Floriana. A win would therefore put Jesmond Zerafa’s side seven points clear.

Valletta are the only unbeaten side in the Premier League, dropping their only points in two draws with Hibernians and Birkirkara. They are coming from three successive wins over Tarxien, Marsaxlokk and Sliema, scoring eleven in the process.

Floriana won four and lost three, earning their other point in a draw with Vittoriosa. A win would put them just one point behind the Citizens.

Meanwhile in the first match, Hibernians and Sliema Wanderers will be aiming at regaining lost pride by securing the three points from this direct clash between two teams who have definitely disappointed so far.

Hibernians lie at the bottom of the table with six points from eight matches. They have gone seven matches without a win and failed to score in the last three matches. The Paolites suffered a 0-2 defeat to Tarxien last week.

Sliema, on the other hand, are third from bottom with eight points. They failed to win in the last four matches, losing the last three games to Tarxien, Valletta and Floriana.
