Four teams seek precious points

Two matches will be in programme on Sunday at the Hibernians Stadium as Qormi take on Vittoriosa Stars and Sliema Wanderers face Marsaxlokk.

In the first game, Qormi will be all out to claim the three points as they take on Vittoriosa Stars. Qormi are currently seventh on 11 points, five ahead of Vittoriosa who lie at the bottom of the table with six.

Stephen Azzopardi’s side won just one game out of the last six matches, also earning points in another two draws. Vittoriosa, on the other hand, lost 0-2 to Hamrun and 2-3 to Valletta despite playing for an hour in ten men against the Citizens.

Leighton Grech returns for Winston Muscat’s side but Kevin Mifsud is ruled out as he serves a one-match ban. For Qormi, the presence of Abubakar Bello-Osagie is in doubt as he left the pitch injured in the last game against Hamrun. Jonathan Bondin serves a one-match ban.

In the first round, Qormi registered a 4-2 win.

In the second match, Sliema Wanderers and Marsaxlokk will be aiming at returning to winning ways after disappointing in recent outings. The Southseasiders are currently sixth on ten points, three ahead of the Wanderers who lie in eighth place.

Sliema have now gone six matches without a win but have collected two points in draws with Hibernians and Birkirkara in their last two outings. Marsaxlokk, on the other hand, collected just one point in the last three matches in a draw with Vittoriosa, losing to Qormi and Tarxien in the last two games.

Clifford Gatt Baldacchino, Julian Briffa and John Mintoff are all ruled out through suspension for Sliema but Clayton Failla could be back after a long-term injury.

In the first round, the two teams shared the spoils in a goalless draw.
