Balzan Youths are the new leaders of the BOV First Division after defeating St. George’s 4-3 in a top-of-the-table clash on Saturday. For St. George’s, this was the first defeat.

Luiz Ruiz put the Saints ahead on 19 minutes and late in first half, Glenn Bonello doubled the score. Steve Meilaq pulled one back for the Youths two minutes in the second half but Ruiz made it 3-1 for St. George’s on 55 minutes. However Balzan completed an incredible comeback with goals by Renato Conceicao on 69, Meilak on 85 and Lydon Micallef on 88 minutes.

Meanwhile Lija Athletic came from behind to beat Msida St. Joseph 2-1.

Joseph Damato put the Saints ahead on 25 minutes but Admir Dzanovic levelled matters on the hour. Five minutes later, Keith Darmanin notched the winner for Lija.

Balzan lead the way with 14 points, followed by St. George’s on 13 and Lija 12.

On Sunday, St. Andrews take on Pietà Hotspurs and Mosta face Melita.
