Rainbows seek revenge

Tarxien Rainbows will be hoping to extend their positive run with a fourth successive win on Sunday as they take on Qormi in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme at the Hibernians Stadium.

The Rainbows lost 1-2 to Qormi in the first round and will therefore be all out to revenge this defeat in order to keep the pace with leaders Valletta and build a five-point gap over third-placed Floriana. Tarxien were unbeaten in the last seven matches, from which they claimed six wins and a draw with Birkirkara.

Qormi cannot afford any result other than a win in order to climb out of the danger zone. They lost two out of the last three matches, holding Vittoriosa in a draw in the other game.

Kang Hojung returns for Qormi after serving a one-match ban while Jason Vandelannoite, Abubakar Bello-Osagie and Kosta Bjedov should all be back after recovering from injuries. Joseph Farrugia and Roderick Sammut are ruled out. On the other hand, Tarxien should be in full strength.

Meanwhile in the first match, Sliema Wanderers take on Vittoriosa Stars in a clash between two teams desperate for points.

The Wanderers are currently eighth on eleven points and have collected just four points in four draws out of the last eight matches. In their last outing, they lost 2-3 to Hamrun. Vittoriosa, on the other hand, lost three out of the last four matches, earning the only point in a draw with Qormi. The Stars are anchored at the bottom of the table with six points.

Tunisian striker Chakib Lachkhem will be making his debut for the Wanderers after replacing Ivorian defender Sekou Tidiane Souare. John Mintoff and Obinna Obiefule are in doubt as they were recovering from injuries. Vittoriosa will be without Carlos Campagnoli.

In the first round, Sliema registered a narrow 1-0 win.
