Darmanin Demajo to run for the post of UEFA EXCO member

The Malta Football Association will be nominating MFA President Norman Darmanin Demajo for the election to the post of member of theUEFA Executive Committee. The election will be held in March.

Malta was represented in the UEFA Executive Committee for the past seventeen years by former MFA President Dr Joe Mifsud.

Speaking during a meeting of the Council which was held on Thursday, Darmanin Demajo said that as he had earlier explained, he believed that nominating Dr Mifsud would be of any benefit for the association.

During the previous Council meeting, clubs were informed that they could submit their nomination for discussion by the Executive Committee. Second Division club Zurrieq was the only one to submit the nomination of Dr Mifsud. On the other hand, thirty-two clubs and member associations submitted the name of Norman Darmanin Demajo. These were Birkirkara, Birzebbuga St. Peter’s, Floriana, Gharghur, Ghaxaq, Gudja United, Gzira United, Lija Athletic, Luqa St. Andrew’s, Marsa, Mosta, Mqabba, Msida St. Joseph, Pietà Hotspurs, Qrendi, San Gwann, Santa Lucia, Senglea Athletic, Sliema Wanderers, St. George’s, Tarxien Rainbows, Valletta, Zebbug Rangers, Zejtun Corinthians, District Football League, Gozo Football Association, Hotels & Restaurants Sports Association, Industries Sports Association, Inter Amateur Soccer Competition and Youth Football Association.

The MFA Executive Committee discussed the issue in a meeting on Wednesday and decided to submit the nomination of the MFA president. Norman Darmanin Demajo accepted this nomination.

For seven years, between 1994 and 2001, Darmanin Demajo had served as a member of the UEFA Youth Committee.
