Leaders target seventh successive win

Leaders Valletta will be hoping to move fifteen points clear on top the BOV Premier League table as they take on Marsaxlokk in one of the two matches in programme on Saturday.

The Citizens managed to extend the lead after defeating second-placed Tarxien Rainbows on Sunday and are now eager to stretch their unbeaten record with another win against a Marsaxlokk side who is coming from a shock 0-3 defeat to Vittoriosa Stars in the FA Trophy on Wednesday just a few days after they managed to beat Birkirkara 2-0 to close in on Hamrun and the same Birkirkara in their bid to secure a place in the Championship Pool.

In the first round, Valletta defeated Marsaxlokk 2-0.

Meanwhile in the first match, Birkirkara take on Hamrun Spartans. A clash between another two teams who are eager for points as they target a top six finish.

Birkirkara are currently fourth on 20 points followed by Hamrun on 19.

The Stripes lost the last two games to Valletta and Marsaxlokk and are therefore eager to bounce back with three points from this game which would put them just one point behind Floriana and Tarxien.

Like Birkirkara, Hamrun lost their last two games to Floriana and Hibernians and were defeated 3-2 after extra-time by Tarxien in the FA Trophy.

Ryan Fenech, Martin Hrubsa and Dene Shield are ruled out for the Spartans. Birkirkara, on the other hand, should have Andrei Agius and Rodolfo Adorno Kumbrevicius de Oliveira making their debut.

In the first round, Hamrun and Birkirkara shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
