Ibrahim Babatunde joins Birkirkara

Birkirkara F.C. continued to strengthen their squad on Thursday as they secured the services of 26 year old Nigerian striker Ibrahim Olalekan Babatunde, till the end of the season.

Ibrahim Babatunde is not a new face to Maltese football. After playing for Arezzo and Piacenza in Italy and RAEC Mons in Belgium, he joined Msida St. Joseph F.C. and he left a very good impression scoring 18 goals, and it was no wonder he became a firm supporters’ favourite. His contribution to the team was awarded by winning the Malta Football Best Foreign Player in the same year.

After leaving Malta, he moved to Denmark where he joined AC Horsens. Babatunde last played for Nocerina before being released earlier this season.

Babatunde, or ‘Baba’ as he is affectionately called, was a free-agent which meant that ‘The Stripes’ had no pressure to sign him before the end of the January Transfer Market. He is expected to join the squad for the first training session today at St Aloysius College starting at 6pm.

Subject to the arrival of the International Transfer Certificate, Babatunde is expected to make his debut this Saturday in the match against Qormi F.C.
