B'Kara YN launches the Eurosport International Youth Football Festival

Following an action-packed Christmas period, the Infetti Training Grounds will once again be buzzing with activity on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th April. This time round, the Birkirkara FC Youth Nursery, in collaboration with the Malta Tourism Authority and Sports Park Malta, will be hosting the Eurosport International Youth Festival, in memory of the late Alfred Borg and Mario Borg.

This Festival, open for boys born in the year 2000, will be enriched by the participation of two Italian youth nurseries. Atalanta, who are twinned with the Stripes, will be sending 22 players together with 5 delegates, thus will be participating with 2 teams. Triestina will have a squad made up of 13 players, accompanied by 4 delagates. Besides Birkirkara, the other 4 local nurseries represented in this festival are Hamrun Spartans, Paola Hibs, Pieta Hostpurs and San Gwann.

The competing teams will be split in two groups, with Atalanta having a team in each. On the first day all the teams will be playing against their counterparts in the respective groups on a round-robin system. The top two teams in each group will then play against each other on Day 2 whereas those placing third and fourth will form the other group, again using the same system.

On Sunday 10th April, at 7.00pm, a Presentation and Cocktail Party for the Foreign Club Delegates, Local Nurseries’ Delegates, Foreign Players, Foreign Parents and other Guests will be held at the recently inaugurated area within the Birkirkara FC Youth Nursery premises. During this activity, a commemorative plaque in name of Alfred Borg and Mario Borg will be uncovered.

Bergamo Tour April 2011

In the meantime, a squad of 15 players aged between 13 and 14 will be heading to the North Italian city of Bergamo where they will be taking part in two triangular tournaments against teams from local nurseries. The contingent, led by Nursery Chairman Mr Henry Bray, together with Nursery Delegates Mr Robert Bray and Mr Ivan Muscat, will be leaving the Island on Thursday 31st March, making its return on Monday 4th April.
Mr Oliver Mallia, Mr Gilbert Micallef and Mr Marius Naudi will form the coaching staff and will be mentoring the boys from the technical point of view during the two triangular tournaments. The first tournament is scheduled for Friday 1st April afternoon at Ponte San Pietro, the opponents being A.C.Pontisola and U.S. Giemme. The second tournament will be held at Cologno al Serio on Sunday 3rd April, where the Maltese will be facing Atalanta BC and A.C. Colognese.
On Saturday 2nd April, the contingent will be witnessing a Serie B match between Atalanta and Triestina at the Atleti Azzurri d’Italia Stadium. During the stay they will also have the opportunity to visit the picturesque city of Como, the Bergamo city centre and also Bologna, the latter before leaving the Italian Peninsula.
