Qormi seek win to secure Premier League status

Qormi will be all out to claim the three points on Saturday as they take on Sliema Wanderers in a clash from the Relegation Pool at the Hibernians Stadium.

After beating Hibs on Friday, Vittoriosa moved to just five points behind Qormi but a win for the latter in this game would seal the issue in the Relegation Pool and condemn the Stars to Division 1.

In their last outing, Qormi allowed Hibernians to come back from behind and beat them 4-3 and then they were eliminated from the U*BET FA Trophy after losing to Floriana on penalties.

Sliema won two of the three Relegation Pool matches played so far, defeating Qormi 4-0. In the first phase the two clashes ended in goalless draws.

Qormi defender Jason Vandelannoite and Sliema midfielder Roderick Bajada are both suspended. Sliema striker Etienne Barbara will be making his last appearance before rejoining Carolina RailHawks in the USA.

Meanwhile in the second match, Hamrun Spartans take on Marsaxlokk.

The Southseasiders would move second, one point ahead of Birkirkara, should they beat Hamrun. A 1-4 defeat to Birkirkara in their last outing brought their positive run of nine matches to an end.

Hamrun lost to Floriana and Tarxien in their last two outings and are the only team who is yet to win in the Championship Pool, collecting their only points in two draws.

Marsaxlokk defeated Hamrun twice this season – 2-1 and 3-2.
