Naxxar Lions were promoted to Division 1 after beating Zebbug Rangers by the odd goal in five in a match from the BOV Second Division on Saturday

Naxxar move second on 39 points, followed by Rabat on 37 and Mellieha 35.

Timmy Thomas put the Rangers ahead but a brace by Gilbert Camilleri and a goal by Andre Rocha Da Silva put Naxxar in the driving seat. Jeremy Agius scored a second goal for Zebbug to reduce the gap.

Meanwhile in another match, Birzebbuga St. Peter’s maintained alive hopes of securing promotion to Division 1 after beating Zurrieq 1-0.

A win which puts Joe Gerada’s side in fifth place on 34 points, one ahead of St. Patrick who however have a game in hand.

On Sunday, Rabat Ajax and Mellieha cross swords in a decisive clash for promotion. The Magpies need a draw and Mellieha a win to make it to Division 1. St. Patrick take on Zejtun Corinthians in another match.
