Four teams fight for a place in Division II/III Knock-Out final

The Quick-Keno Second & Third Division Knock-Out Competition takes centre stage at the Centenary Stadium as four teams will be fighting for a place in the final in the two semi-finals which will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The four semi-finalists are Second Division sides Zejtun Corinthians, Naxxar Lions and Rabat Ajax and Third Division side St. Venera Lightnings. The four teams have already secured promotion to a higher division as Zejtun, Naxxar and Rabat were promoted to Division 1 and the Lightnings were promoted to Division 2.

On Tuesday, holders Zejtun Corinthians take on Naxxar Lions.

The Corinthians defeated Mgarr United 3-0 in the quarter-finals after winning a group which included Santa Lucia, Gudja United and Gzira United, beating them 2-0, 2-0 and 2-1 respectively.

To reach this stage, Naxxar won a group which included Third Division sides. They drew 2-2 with Xghajra Tornados and beat Sirens 3-0 and Kirkop United 3-1. In the quarter-finals, they defeated another team from Division 3 – Attard 3-0.

Zejtun and Naxxar met twice this season with the Corinthians winning the first round clash 1-0 and the second one ending in a goalless draw.

The other semi-final is between Third Division side St. Venera Lightnings and Rabat Ajax.

Rabat Ajax defeated Mdina Knights 3-1 and Ghaxaq 2-1 and drew 0-0 with Mellieha in the group stage. They went on to beat Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 3-0 in the quarter-finals.

St. Venera Lightnings won Group 7 which included Senglea Athletic, Gharghur and Swieqi United. They beat Gharghur 1-0, drew 0-0 with Swieqi and defeated Second Division side Senglea 2-1. The Lightnings then beat Mtarfa 2-0 in the quarter-finals.

In these semi-finals, extra-time will be played if necessary. If, after the end of extra-time, the result is still draw, penalty kicks shall be taken in accordance with The Laws of the Game.

The final will be played on Sunday May 8th at the Hibernians Stadium.
