Hefty fine for Naxxar Lions following incident

Naxxar Lions were handed a hefty fine following the incidents which led referee Paul Apap to abandon the Quick-Keno Second & Third Division Knock-Out semi-final between Naxxar and Zejtun Corinthians which was played on April 26.

After examining the charges, heard all witnesses, viewed the documents related with the case and the video of the incident, the Board of Control and Discipline of the Malta Football Association found Naxxar Lions guilty of causing the abandoning of the game and the score is therefore to read as 2-0 for Zejtun Corinthians. Naxxar’s share of the gate money from the game will be lost.

The club was also found guilty of use of violence towards the referee which led to slight injuries and were therefore fined €2500 and a further €1000 for the pitch invasion.

Naxxar Lions were also found guilty of the throwing of objects onto the field of play and was therefore fined €300.

Zejtun Corinthians will therefore meet Rabat Ajax in Sunday’s final which will be played at the Hibernians Stadium, kick-off at 17:00.
