Premier League club targets Maltese youth players

English Premier League soccer club West Bromwich Albion F.C will be coming to Malta in July 2011 to run a Professional Opportunities Courses alongside coach education company Premier Skills. The purpose of these courses is to scout and select players to take up apprentice professional contracts at the club.

The Professional Opportunities courses provide opportunities for players between the ages of 8 and 16 to train at a professional level, be assessed and have a unique opportunity to be scouted by an English Premier League club without leaving the country.

W.B.A regards the Malta youth and schools soccer programs as high quality development schemes that are producing young players who could successfully play the game in the UK.

A senior member of the W.B.A academy coaching staff will be present to coach, assess and scout local players alongside a Premier Skills coaching team.

Premier Skills will also be running a specialist Goal Keeping course for young players and a Grassroots Coaching Workshop for local coaches.

The Professional Opportunities courses are run in partnership with Premier Skills – a UK based coaching company that is operated by Roger Wilkinson – former New Zealand Director of Coaching and West Bromwich Albion F.C Under 21 coach and John Cartwright former Arsenal F.C first team coach and PFA director of football.
