Alfred Effiong joins Valletta

Valletta continued to strengthen their squad with the signing of Nigerian striker Alfred Effiong.

Twenty-six year old Effiong started his career in the Maltese islands with Kercem Ajax in Gozo before joining St. George’s in January 2007. The following summer, he moved to Hamrun Spartans where he spent one year before signing for Qormi in summer 2008. Last year, Effiong moved to Marsaxlokk ending the season as top scorer with 17 goals.

Effiong is set to make his debut for the Citizens on Thursday as they take on Birkirkara in the third and final game of the Euro Cup.

The Nigerian striker is the fourth foreigner on contract with Valletta along Brazilian defender Ramon Dos Santos, Brazilian midfielder Denni Rocha Dos Santos and Burkina Faso winger Ousseni Zongo. Another Brazilian striker William Barbosa Da Silva is currently on trial with the club.
