The Malta Football Players Association has submitted a request to the Malta Football Association for affiliation. This was revealed by MFA President Norman Darmanin Demajo during a meeting of the Council of the Malta Football Association which was held on Saturday.

The MFPA is therefore seeking not only official recognition but affiliation and hence representation within the Malta Football Association in the same way, other stakeholders in the game, such as referees and coaches, are represented in the association. The Malta Football Coaches and the Malta Football Referees Association are represented by two Council Members each in the Council of the Malta Football Association.

Such a request for affiliation would have to be sanctioned by the Annual General Meeting of the Malta Football Association or an Extraordinary General Meeting.

Among the main issues being raised by the association, which was set up earlier this year with the help of the General Workers Union, are the free transfer of players at the end of their contract, salary capping and medical insurance. The MFPA met officials from the Malta Football Association and are now hoping to meet local clubs.

The Malta Football Players Association’s committee which was elected recently is made up of President Dr Anthony Galea, secretary Cory Greenland, deputy secretary Carlo Mamo and members Dr Malcolm Licari, Alex Muscat, Konrad Sultana, Brian Said and Ivan Woods.
