Excess Bidnija end their commitments in UEFA Futsal Cup

Excess RP Bidnija ended their commitments in the UEFA Futsal Cup with an 11-6 defeat to Turkish side Universitesi Istanbul on Sunday.

At one point half way during the second half of the match, Excess RP Bidnija seemed that they were registering an impressive comeback. A hat trick by player coach Florin Anton in the second part of the match boosted the morale of his players as Excess Bidnija were in two separate instances only one goal down to the Turks.

The lack of experienced Futsal players in the international scenario proved to be the weakest point of this team through the tournament which unfortunately was evident once again.

It was a final for the third place as like the Maltese team Istanbul Universitesi lost their previous two matches so it was a battle to avoid the wooden spoon.

Alexander Ribic was not in his best physical condition as he had suffered an ankle injury in the game against CF Eindhoven, but still decided to make that extra effort and play lengthy segments of the match. Player coach Florin Anton opted to replace Ribic with Christian Micallef is his starting formation. The former Malta Under-21 international and Birkirkara FC player, proved once again to be one of the key players of the team.

The final result does not entirely reflect the outcome of the game as six goals were scored by the Turks in the last four minutes of play.

Florin Anton who had not yet put his name on the two previous match sheets, managed a fine performance which was topped with three fine goals.

Nonetheless this international exposure and experience will enhance the chances for this team to continue to improve and will definitely be one of the main contenders for the MFA 1st Division Futsal Championship for the 2011/12 season.
