Joseph Okonkwo joins Floriana

Floriana secured the services of Nigerian striker Joseph Okonkwo. He joins the club on a 1 year deal.

The player returned to Malta this summer following an unsuccessful start to last season with Valletta after which he was released. He joined Hamrun Spartans for the pre-season and at one point, he was expected to sign for them.

Joseph Okonkwo is a familiar face in Maltese football having played for Dingli Swallows in the BOV Premier League in the 2009/2010 season. Although Dingli were relegated that season, Okonkwo was one of the best foreigners and found the net no less than 13 times which is more than half the goals the Swallows scored during that season.

All the paperwork has been done and an application for the International Clearance Certificate has already been submitted. Joseph Okonkwo already started training with the team and should the international clearance be received in time Okonkwo will be eligible for selection for next Saturday’s game against Tarxien Rainbows.
