Pietà Hotspurs Nursery take part in Dana Cup

The Under-14 and Under-12 sides of the Pietà Hotspurs Youth Nursery took part in the 30th edition of the Dana Cup in Hjorring, Denmark. Around 800 teams from 46 different countries took part in this tournament which was held between the 22nd July and the 1st of August.

In the Under 12 category, forty-one teams were divided in ten groups. The Hotspurs defeated Andheri FC 6-0, Lerunes IS 4-3 and Orn Horten FK 6-2, losing 2-3 to Duren-Niederau. The team therefore finished second in the group and qualified for the ‘A’ Finals. However in the Knock Out stage, the team lost 0-1 to Oges Sport Center.

Prior to the tournament the team played some friendly matches, beating Ham Kam 2-1, EB Strejmur 8-0 and Pro Touch Soccer Academy 6-0.

In the Under 14 category, one hundred and four teams were divided in twenty-six groups. The Hotspurs drew 0-0 with Tonsberg FK and then defeated Hjorring IF 6-0 and Viking FK 2-0.

The team finished second in the group due to an inferior goal difference and qualified for the ‘A’ Finals. In the Knock Out stage, the team beat Hinna FB after a penalty shoot out but lost 0-3 to FC Hjorring in the last 16 stage.

In two friendly matches before the tournament, Pietà drew 1-1 with Flint IL and 0-0 with Nationaldammeraterne.

The boys took part in the Grand Opening Ceremony as well as found time to visit the Farup Sommerland Fun Park, the Aquarium and the Zoo in Aalborg as well as the Go Karts Track in Hjorring.

The contingent was made up of 44 persons, under the leadership of nursery chairman Frankie Ciantar, Head Coach Michael Farrugia as well as coaches Cedric Pisani, Tony Camilleri, Jesmond Sultana and Stefan Barbara.

Meanwhile Pietà Hotspurs FC Youth Nursery is accepting applications from parents of children born 2008 onwards who would like to join the Nursery,
