BOV Premier League resumes this weekend

The BOV Premier League resumes this weekend with two matches on Saturday and another two on Sunday at the National Stadium and another two matches at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Monday.

On Saturday, Qormi take on Mqabba while champions Valletta face Birkirkara in the big match for this weekend.

Both Valletta and Birkirkara returned to winning ways in their last outing after suffering defeats a week earlier. Valletta defeated Mqabba 4-2 and now lie one point behind leaders Hibernians. Birkirkara, on the other hand, beat Marsaxlokk 2-1 – a win which brought a rather disappointing run to an end. They are currently joint-fifth on ten points from six matches.

Since then Birkirkara have re-appointed Paul Zammit as their new coach – just four months after he was replaced by Patrick Curmi. Zammit will therefore make his first appearance as Birkirkara coach against his former team.

The Stripes are expected to be in full strength with no players injured or suspended. On the other hand, Valletta will be lacking Ryan Fenech and Gilbert Agius who are both suspended. Steve Borg returns after serving a one-match ban while Michael Mifsud should be in the starting line-up after recovering from an injury which ruled him out of the last two league games.

Valletta and Birkirkara met in the Euro Cup earlier this summer with the clash ending in a 2-2 draw.

Meanwhile in the first game, Qormi take on Mqabba. Both sides did quite well so far, collecting ten points and seven points respectively.

Qormi lost two of the first three matches but then collected seven points from the next three matches. In their last outing, they drew 1-1 with Floriana.

Mqabba, on the other hand, suffered defeats to Floriana and Sliema in the opening matches but then bounced back with wins over Marsaxlokk and Balzan and a draw with Birkirkara. In their last outing, they lost 2-4 to Valletta.
