BOV Division 1: Hotspurs keep marching on — Cottonera derby ends in draw

Pietà Hotspurs maintained their positive run on top the BOV First Division League table as they defeated wooden-spoonists St. Patrick in one of the four matches in programme on Friday.

Zach Muscat put the Hotspurs ahead on 20 minutes and although Blendi Gockaj levelled matters for the Saints two minutes from the end of the first half, Jurgen Pisani secured the three points for Pietà with a goal five minutes in the second half.

At the Centenary Stadium, a goal by Gers Delia fifteen minutes from time gave Zejtun Corinthians a 1-0 win over Birzebbuga St. Peter’s.

The Cottonera derby between St. George’s and Vittoriosa Stars ended in a goalless draw. In stoppage time, three players were sent off, namely Leon Dos Santos of Vittoriosa, Amadeo Mercieca and Heathcliff Schembri of St. George’s.

Naxxar Lions and Lija Athletic also shared the spoils in a 0-0 draw in the other game at the Luxol Stadium.

Pietà lead the way with 16 points, followed by Zejtun on 13, Rabat 12, Birzebbuga and Melita 9, Vittoriosa 8, Lija and St. Andrews 6, St. George’s and Dingli 5, Naxxar 4 and St. Patrick 1.
