The importance being attached to the development of women’s football is increasingly attracting the attention of female footballers, coaches and administrators. Activities on various aspects of this development are being held regularly.
On Monday 24th October a group of Maltese coaches and administrators left Malta for Coverciano, Italy, where a UEFA Study Group on Women’s Football was organised on the lines of a seminar.
During the seminar the Maltese had the opportunity to meet delegates from Italy, Azerbaijan and Ireland.
The main speakers were Renzo Ulivieri, current chairman of the Italian Football Managers Association and ex-coach of several Serie A teams, Vanni Sartini, Italian FA Development Officer and Milena Bertolini, UEFA PRO Licence Coach.
The seminar started by a presentation of the participants from Malta, Azerbaijan and Ireland who dealt with what is being done in the respective countries in this sector of developing women’s football.
Prevention of injuries was the next topic presented by Lucha Gattesco, the Italian National Team doctor, while Katia Serra, a former Italian international player and now women’s football coordinator of the Italian Players’ Association and TV commentator gave a talk on women’s football in Italy and the problems it had to face in its development stages. Enrico Sbardella, the Italian U-17 Head Coach presented an insight of the youth sector in Italy.
The event was the initiative of the MFA Technical Centre who is working assiduously to provide our adminstrators and technical personnel in the women’s sector with ample information and wider horizons in the world of women’s football.
