Rainbows awarded points after protest

Tarxien Rainbows were awarded a 2-0 win by the MFA Protests Board following a protest against the result of the BOV Premier League match against Marsaxlokk which was played on Sunday.

The Rainbows argued that Serbian attacking midfielder Ivan Kurtusic was ineligible to play for Marsaxlokk as he had already played for another two clubs during season 2011/12.

Kurtusic started the season with FK Senta in Serbia, playing his last game on November 27, 2011 . In December, he moved to Malta, joining Vittoriosa Stars where he played two matches.

The player then joining Marsaxlokk, making his debut  in the game against Valletta earlier this month. The game against Tarxien was his second one.

The MFA Protests Board therefore overturned the result – a 2-2 draw – into a 2-0 for Tarxien.

The Rainbows move to the 18-point mark, two behind Mosta and Mqabba. Hamrun are second from bottom on 16 while Marsaxlokk lie at the bottom of the table with 11 points.
