Michael Woods hands his resignation

Floriana coach Michael Woods handed his resignation following last Wednesday’s 1-3 defeat to Birkirkara. A defeat which extended the Greens’ winless streak to five matches.

Woods had joined Floriana in summer 2010 as coach but it was only in February 2011 that he assumed full responsibility of the team following the sacking of the then Floriana technical director Todor Raykov. He managed to lead the Greens to success in the U*BET FA Trophy in May.

Floriana had a most positive run between November and January which put them in third place with a most comfortable lead over the teams in fourth place. However a defeat to Mosta, draws with Balzan, Hibs and Valletta and last Wednesday’s defeat to Birkirkara saw them lose ground in the race for the championship and allowed the Stripes to join them in third place.

Leaders Valletta and second-placed Hibernians lie ten points and eight points respectively ahead of Floriana.

Besides Woods, goalkeepers’ coach Roger Camilleri and team manager Anthony Grech Sant are also believed to have resigned.
