Hamrun, Qormi seek second successive win

Precious points will be at stake on Sunday as Mosta take on Tarxien Rainbows and Hamrun Spartans face Qormi in two clashes from the Relegation Pool at the Hibernians Stadium. Mosta and Tarxien were on the losing end last weekend while Hamrun and Qormi registered wins.

After suffering defeats in their last outings, Mosta and Tarxien Rainbows are both eager to return to winning ways as they cross swords in a clash between the teams lying second and third from bottom. Mosta lost two of the last three matches, earning the only point in the Relegation Pool in a 2-2 draw with Hamrun.

Tarxien lost three out of the last four matches but a win over Mqabba two weeks ago put them just one point behind Mosta. They are coming from a narrow defeat to Qormi in their last outing.

A major boost for the Rainbows is the return of influential defender Everton Antonio Pereira who missed the last two games due to a suspension. Mosta coach Steve D’Amato could not count on the suspended Gilbert Martin while the presence of Kurt Magro who was set to return after serving a one-match ban is in doubt as he was sick during the week.

Tarxien defeated Mosta 1-0 in the first round but Mosta registered a 2-1 win in the second.

Meanwhile Relegation Pool leaders Qormi hope to continue where they had left last week with another win on Sunday in order to move further away from danger. After disappointing in the previous game against Marsaxlokk, they collected three precious points from the game against Tarxien although their performances still need to improve. Kenneth Scicluna will be back in the starting line-up after missing the last game.

After earning a point in a draw with Mosta, the Spartans were in excellent form last week as they defeated Marsaxlokk 6-1. Another positive result is a must for Stefan Sultana’s side. Should they beat Qormi, they would move to just one point behind their rivals.

Qormi defeated Hamrun twice this season – 3-2 and 3-0.
