Tiago Loquete banned for nine months, fined €1000

Mellieha striker Tiago Loquete was banned for nine months and fined €1,000 after admitting in court to assaulting referee Trustin Farrugia Cann during the BOV Second Division match between Mellieha and Gudja on Sunday.

The incident took place in half-time as Loquete, who a few minutes earlier, was cautioned by referee Trustin Farrugia Cann, went to complain with the referee. As Farrugia Cann was about to show Loquete a second yellow card, the Brazilian striker hit the referee who ended on the ground.

In court, the player was charged with attacking, slightly injuring and threatening the referee.

Magistrate Miriam Hayman fined Tiago Loquete €1,000 and banned him from entering football grounds for a period of nine months. The player was warned not to approach or speak to the referee against a personal guarantee of €233.
