Birkirkara crowned BOV Women's First Division champions

Birkirkara FC were crowned champions of the BOV Women’s First Division. In their final match on Tuesday, they drew 2-2 but this clash with rivals Hibernians was reduced to formality after they clinched the title with an 8-0 victory over Pembroke few weeks ago.

Throughout the campaign, the Stripes dropped the only points in four draws – two with Mosta and two with Hibernians.

The winners trophy was presented to Birkirkara captain Chantal Fenech by MFA vice-president Ludovico Micallef in the presence of BOV Marketing Manager Tanya Gravina.

In another match, Mosta defeated Gozo 4-1.

BOV Women’s Second Division Champions Mgarr United registered their nineteenth win as they beat Lija / Iklin 6-1.

Second-placed Hamrun Spartans maintained a three-point lead over Zurrieq thanks to a narrow 2-1 win over St. Venera Yellow Blues. Zurrieq defeated Naxxar Lions 9-0 while in another match, Melita defeated Zejtun Corinthians 8-1.

Mgarr lead the way with 57 points, followed by Hamrun on 49, Zurrieq 46, Tarxien 35, St. Venera and Kirkop 30, Melita 28, Lija / Iklin 18, Naxxar 8, Zejtun and Santa Lucia 4.

Both leagues come to an end on Tuesday 10th April with the matches which were originally scheduled for February 21.
