Michel Platini to inaugurate Fgura United complex, attend Valletta vs Floriana

UEFA President Michel Platini will be paying Malta a short visit on Saturday during which he will be inaugurating the Fgura United Ground and later attend the BOV Premier League match between Valletta and Floriana. Details were given during a press conference addressed by MFA Chief Executive Officer Bjorn Vassallo, vice-president Alex Manfre and Deputy General Secretary for International Affairs Joe Cassar.

The MFA CEO said this visit was a clear sign that the association enjoys a good reputation at UEFA and this was stressed further with the decision to award Malta with the hosting of the UEFA Under-17 Championship final tournament in 2014.

Bjorn Vassallo said that for Saturday’s games, the West Stand A will be reserved for Floriana and Birkirkara supporters, West Stand C for Valletta supporters, Millennium Side Stand D for Valletta and Sliema supporters while the Millennium Side Stand F will be ‘the Family Stand’ with special reduced prices for adults attending with children as they will be paying €4 rather than €6. Tickets for the West Stand A and C and Millennium Stand Side D will be as usual. Ticket booths open at 13:00 and the gates will open at 13:30.

Deputy General Secretary for International Affairs and Events Joe Cassar said Michel Platini will be arriving in Malta at 11:05 where he will meet top MFA officials and Parliamentary Secretary Clyde Puli. He will then travel to Fgura where he will inaugurate the Fgura United complex together with Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi at 12:30.

Platini will later address a press conference at Ta’ Qali and following a reception at the National Stadium, he will attend the game between Valletta and Floriana.

MFA Vice-President Alex Manfre appealed for co-operation from all and for good behaviour from supporters during the game.
