Two-point deduction for Mellieha

Mellieha had two points deducted while Gudja United were awarded a 2-0 win by the Control & Disciplinary Board of the Malta Football Association following the incident which took place during half-time in the BOV Second Division match which was played on March 25th at the Centenary Stadium.

Brazilian striker Tiago Loquete, who a few minutes before the end of the first half, was cautioned by referee Trustin Farrugia Cann, went to complain with the referee during half-time. As Farrugia Cann was about to show Loquete a second yellow card, the Brazilian striker hit the referee who ended on the ground. The referee immediately abandoned the game.

Since then Mellieha have terminated the contract of the Brazilian striker who was slapped by a three-year ban by the MFA and was banned from entering any football ground for a period of nine months by Court.

With Gudja being awarded the three points from this game and Mellieha having two points deducted, the two teams are now on level points – 41 – ten behind leaders Gzira United.

The new BOV Second Division League table is now as follows: Gzira 51, Gudja and Mellieha 41, Gharghur 38, Zebbug 37, San Gwann 32, St. Venera 25, Msida, Kirkop and Siggiewi 23, Zurrieq 21, Attard 16, Luqa 15 and Senglea 12.
