Seventeen goalkeepers at Scuola Numero 1 in Italy

Seventeen goalkeepers – 15 boys and 2 girls – from Mario Muscat Goalkeeper School attended a one week training camp at Scuola Numero 1 in Italy between the 8th and 15th July.

Thanks to the twinning agreement between the two schools, for the sixth consecutive year, Maltese goalkeepers had the opportunity to train in one of the best goalkeepers school in Italy which is based in Chianciano, southern Tuscany, province of Siena.

Scuola Numero 1 which is run by the experienced Giuseppe De Fidio has been operating in Italy for the last 19 years and many goalkeepers who attended this school had made it to the top level in Italy. Goalkeepers like Storari, Anania, Perin, Bindi and Frattali all emerged from Scuola Numero 1.

Training sessions were held twice daily, focusing on the physical and technical aspect of the goalkeeper.

The group, which was accompanied by Mario Muscat, Simon Grech and Christopher Sant, also had to opportunity to visit Coverciano – home of Italy national team.

Next year’s camp, which will mark the anniversary of both schools – twenty years of Scuola Numero 1 and ten years of the Mario Muscat Goalkeepers School, there is a good possibility that the camp will be held at Coverciano and top italian players like Buffon and others will be invited to visit the school.
